On November 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China announced a policy of 30-day short-term visa waiver for nine countries including Japan, to be implemented from November 30.
The move follows a notice posted on the Web site by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on March 21, which includes several policies and measures to promote stable growth and promotion of trade. Its eighth item states, “Attract and promote cross-border exchanges of business people. Promote negotiations for reciprocal visa waiver agreements with more countries, expand the range of countries to which the unilateral visa waiver policy for China applies, and extend the period of stay”.
The measure from 30 days expands the pre-Corona short-term visa from 15 days to 30 days, which is expected to stimulate business travel and tourism.
