On December 16, Iris Oyama will release the HUGEL Aerogel Soft Cooler Box, which has an 18-layer insulation structure based on space suit material technology.
Available in two sizes, 25L (19,800 yen) and 40L (22,800 yen), it is sold mainly through the website, outdoor specialty stores, and home centers nationwide.
The entire surface of the body is made of highly insulating aerogel, which is also used in space suits. The ice is kept cold for up to 5.4 days when the ice is kept in the cooler box at 40% by volume and the ice weight is measured after 9 hours at 30°C and 15 hours at 20°C. The time until the ice melts away is calculated.
The inner cooler is nested in the outer cooler, and the sides and bottom have 18 layers of insulation with the inner and outer coolers to reduce leakage of cold air. It has five legs on the bottom to lift the unit off the ground, an inner pocket for holding coolant, an outer pocket for storing small items, and a shoulder belt for shoulder use.
The 25L type measures 44 x 36 x 37 cm and can hold approximately 27 500-mL PET bottles, while the 40L type measures 44 x 36 x 37 cm and can hold approximately 34 500-mL PET bottles. When not in use, it can be folded.
