Oriental Land, the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, announced on November 29 that it will make the Port of Tokyo its main departure and arrival base for its Japan-based cruise business.
The company has concluded a partnership agreement with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and the two parties will cooperate in creating an environment for the cruise project to be implemented, as well as in activities to nurture children with rich hearts and minds through the project, business activities respecting diversity, and creating a lively atmosphere in the Tokyo Waterfront Subcenter area.
The company has already announced on July 9 that it will launch a Disney Cruise in Japan, with shipbuilding scheduled to begin in fiscal year 2025 and the ship to be launched in fiscal year 2028. The cruise ship will have a gross tonnage of approximately 140,000 tons and 1,250 rooms. The total investment will be approximately 330 billion yen (construction costs, opening preparation costs, etc.).
Oriental Land says that through this agreement, it will work toward the realization of its unique leisure activity, the “Family Entertainment Cruise.
