The launch ceremony was held as the climax of the 8th PIDA Week just prior to the closing ceremony in the presence of H.E. Dr. Baleo, Ethiopian Minister of State for Transport and Logistics, in front of a full house of about 300 African infrastructure stakeholders. During the ceremony, Mr. Nakamura, Special Assistant to the President of JICA, together with Mr. Bekele-Thomas, Director General of AUDA-NEPAD, and Mr. Sugio, Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the AU, successfully launched the OSBP Status Report.
The OSBP Status Report analyzes the efforts of One-Stop Border Posts (OSBPs) located in key corridors in the Eastern, Central, Southern, and Western regions to achieve a “more integrated and connected Africa” as outlined by the AU Agenda 2063. The report assesses the operational efficiency, infrastructure status, and economic impact of the OSBPs using indicators (KPIs) such as trade volume, time savings, and border procedures. It also presents the role of OSBP in PIDA and AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area) through achievements, challenges, and good practices, and provides recommendations to promote trade facilitation based on these AU policies.
