Limited Express Ticket and Boarding Ticket in One Set Like “Shinkansen e-ticket” and “Smart EX” that use transportation system IC cards, or “Ekinet Q-ticket” as well as JR Kyushu’s QR ticketless system, the limited express ticket and boarding ticket are in one set when using the Shinkansen or conventional limited express trains. Therefore, it is simple if you use only conventional limited express trains or only Shinkansen trains. All you need to do is to make a reservation and purchase a ticket, and then scan the QR code on the automatic ticket gate when entering or exiting the station. Then, what if you are transferring between a local limited express or Shinkansen and a local regular train? Shinkansen e-ticket” and “Smart EX” are only for Shinkansen trains, and the conventional trains before and after the Shinkansen are separate. How about “Ekinet Q-ticket”? I did some research. First, the connection between a conventional limited express train and a local train. In this case, the ticket is a total of all sections, and the limited express ticket is included in the total. For example, if you are going from Iwaki on the Joban Line to Kokufu Tagajo on the Tohoku Main Line, the ticket for “Iwaki→Kokufu Tagajo” is 3080 yen and the ticket for “Iwaki→Sendai” is 2140 yen. At the time of research, Q-tickets are discounted 100 yen off the regular express fare. Ticketless discounts are also available if available. Then, how about transferring between the Shinkansen and a regular train? The same applies here: the ticket is calculated as a total of all segments, and a Shinkansen limited express ticket is included in the total. For example, if you take a local train from Morioka to Ichinoseki, and then take a nonreserved seat on the Shinkansen to Sendai. The total cost is 3410 yen for the Morioka→Sendai ticket and 1870 yen for the Ichinoseki→Sendai free-seat Shinkansen express ticket. At the time of research, the Q-ticket for a reserved seat on the Shinkansen is 200 yen off the regular express fare. Ticketless discounts are also available if available. In any case, since the ticket is a combined total, there is no need to pay a higher price for each train because the system of reduced fare is no longer in effect.
In actual use, the QR code for a ride will be available on the app screen only after 5:00 a.m. on the day of the ride. Of course, you can check the list of reservations even before that. The “QR” is displayed there, so you can confirm that you purchased the ticket with “Ekinetto Q-ticket”. To use the service, select a reservation made with “Ekinet Q-ticket” from the list of reservations, and tap “Display and distribute QR tickets”. Next, tap “Display QR Ticket” under “QR Ticket for Member”. This is somewhat roundabout, but it seems to have been done because multiple reservations can be made at the same time, and QR tickets must be distributed to the accompanying persons. Note that the ability to take a screenshot of the QR Ticket screen has been disabled. There are three main methods of entry and exit. The most obvious is to use an automatic ticket gate equipped with a reader compatible with “Eki-net Q-ticket. This was the method chosen by the author during his trial. If the distance of the ticket exceeds 100 km, it is possible to make a stopover just as with a paper ticket. In both cases, the QR ticket is simply scanned by the automatic ticket checker, and there is no difference in the sensory experience from using a paper ticket or IC card to pass through an automatic ticket checker. When entering or exiting a station, the QR Ticket screen and the bottom of the “Application Details” screen display information on which station the passenger entered or exited. In the case of a stopover, the ticket is “entered” followed by “exited” at the same station. This time, we limited ourselves to the very basics of how to use the system, but there is more to be covered, such as the fact that the “Ekinet Q-Ticket” also has a method for entering and exiting an automatic ticket gate. I would like to write about that later, after I have actually tried it out.
