On December 16, JR East announced the results of “Ekiben Aji no Jinjin 2024,” a contest to revitalize local communities through ekiben, mainly in the company’s service area. There were 61 entries from Tokyo and 16 prefectures, and the total number of votes cast this time was 17,025.
As a result of public voting via the website, the “Ekiben Daishogun” award for the best overall evaluation went to Yamagata Prefecture’s “Beef Dogmanchu Salt Flavor” (Shinkineya), while the second best overall evaluation went to Yamanashi Prefecture’s “Kobuchisawa Station 120th Anniversary Commemorative Lunchbox” (Marumasa).
In addition, the ekiben were evaluated by category, such as “taste,” “arrangement,” and “wrapping paper,” as well as by area. The winning ekiben will be sold at the Tokyo Station Ekiben-ya Matsuri Grandsta Tokyo Branch and other special sections. The festival will be held from January 10 to February 11, 2025.
