JR West announced that it aims to start automatic operation on the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Tsuruga and Kanazawa in FY2029.
As part of the company’s “Mid-Term Management Plan 2025 Update,” the company is working to improve transportation quality and productivity through improvements in both hardware and software, and is collaborating with JR East to develop systems and study technologies to realize automated driving.
In GOA2, the train starts when the driver presses a button and runs while performing calculations. In GOA2, the train departs when the driver presses a button and runs while performing calculations. It also passes through intermediate stations at predetermined times and stops automatically at the arrival station.
This will further improve safety by allowing operators to focus on safety checks on the platform when arriving at and departing from stations, and will also enable stable operation with low power consumption, which is expected to save energy.
