Last year, Rakuten Group achieved a number of successes in various areas. In the Internet Service Business, the annual domestic e-commerce circulation amount was 6 trillion yen, and in the FinTech Service Business, Rakuten Card’s shopping transaction volume reached 6 trillion yen in the third quarter for the first time in a quarter, the number of accounts at Rakuten Bank exceeded 16.19 million in September 2024, and the number of Rakuten Securities, Inc. In September 2024, the number of accounts at Rakuten Bank, Inc. surpassed 16.19 million, and the number of accounts at Rakuten Securities, Inc. exceeded 11.65 million. Vissel Kobe won the J1 League title for the second consecutive year.
Last year, Rakuten Mobile launched commercial services in the platinum band (700 MHz band) and the total number of subscribed lines exceeded 8.3 million. We have also been expanding our solutions for corporate customers to meet their various needs. We have made a significant contribution to reducing communication costs amid the rising overall cost of living in Japan, and we will continue to do our utmost to provide high quality, unlimited, and affordable services.
The Rakuten ecosystem, including e-commerce and fintech, is expanding at an accelerating pace, especially with the mobile challenge. Annual global distribution totaled 44 trillion yen, global membership reached approximately 1.9 billion, and in the third quarter, we achieved our first quarterly operating profit in five years.
The world is undergoing a shift in economic structure where the real and financial economy is built on a “virtual economy” consisting of virtual networks and large-scale data centers, driven by the four revolutions of the Internet, smart phones, cloud computing, and AI. For further growth, we need to further adapt to these social transformations.
Rakuten Group aims to “democratize AI” so that all people around the world can use AI. In this context, we have also launched “Rakuten AI,” Rakuten’s proprietary technology platform and AI solution that promotes efficiency in marketing, operations, and other areas, and improves the customer experience. By making full use of cutting-edge AI solutions, we hope to not only improve our own operational efficiency and customer experience, but also contribute to the corporate activities of our partners.
