JR West will introduce QR Ticket service for boarding on January 19.
A new ticketless service that allows passengers to pass through automatic ticket gates by using a QR code (QR ticket) issued after applying for a ticket through the “KANSAI MaaS” service or an overseas travel agency. At stations where QR readers are not installed on the automatic ticket gate, passengers can enter and exit the station by reading the posted QR code with their smartphones.
As of January 19, the system was introduced at some stations on the Osaka Loop Line, Kyoto Line, Yumesaki Line, Kobe Line (Osaka to Amagasaki), JR Namba, Tennoji, and Kansai Airport, and will be expanded to stations on conventional lines in the Kinki region in mid-March.
In conjunction with the Osaka-Kansai Expo scheduled to open in April, the “KANSAI MaaS One-Day Pass” allows unlimited travel on the lines of seven Kansai companies (OsakaMetro, Kintetsu, Keihan, JR West, Nankai, Hankyu, and Hanshin), and the “Osaka Smart Access Pass” covers JR and Osaka Metro for a limited time. Overseas travel agencies will handle the “WEST QR Haruka One-way Ticket” (tentative name).
