IHG Hotels & Resorts operates 19 hotel brands with more than 6,500 hotels in more than 100 countries. In Japan, IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates about 47 hotels under eight brands from Hokkaido to Okinawa (as of September 2024). For this interview, we asked Shigenori Tamaki, general manager of the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kanazawa, about the hotel’s surrounding area.
Name: ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kanazawa
Location: 16-3 Showa-machi, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture
–How did you come to work at the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kanazawa?
In 2021, he joined IHG Hotels & Resorts and joined the team preparing for the opening of Hotel Indigo Karuizawa as Director of Sales & Marketing. The following year, with the aim of further advancing his career, he joined the General Manager Development Program and worked at ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel TOYAMA as General Manager from June 2023 for about a year before assuming his current position at the hotel in August 2024.
–What kind of hotel is it?
The hotel boasts an excellent location, just a minute’s walk from the Kenrokuen Exit of Kanazawa Station, which is the fastest 2.5-hour bullet train ride from Tokyo, and is only a 15-minute drive from major tourist attractions in the city, including Kenrokuen Garden, which was awarded three stars by the Michelin Green Guide Japon (Michelin Tourism Edition), making it an ideal base for sightseeing and business. With 249 guest rooms, six restaurants and bars, and nine banquet halls of various sizes, it is one of the city’s leading urban hotels and has been loved by local and foreign guests since its opening as the Kanazawa ANA Hotel in 1990.
–What is the unique experience of the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kanazawa?
Kanazawa Station was selected as one of the “14 most beautiful train stations in the world” by one of the world’s leading travel magazines. Some of the hotel’s restaurants and guest rooms offer views of its graceful glass structures, the Motenashi Dome and the Kodo Gate.
In addition, “Japanese Cuisine Unkai” on the 5th floor faces a Japanese garden modeled after Kenrokuen Garden, where guests can enjoy their meals while taking in the seasonal beauty of the garden. Guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery and traditions unique to Kanazawa for a special moment.
–please let me know if you have any personal favorites tourist spots or restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel.
The plaza in the center of downtown Kanazawa hosts a variety of events including food and drink every weekend in the spring and fall when the weather is nice. 2024 participated in a beer event, where visitors enjoyed a lively atmosphere and a pleasant time, enjoying beer and local gourmet food. These events have been well received by local residents and tourists alike. Please check the schedule when planning your trip to Kanazawa. It will be a wonderful memory.
–What restaurant menu do you recommend?
The breakfast buffet “THE 10,” which was renewed in November 2024, is most highly recommended. The 10 carefully selected signature dishes include the “Local Gourmet Kitchen” where the chefs of “Cascade Dining” showcase their skills, “Reward Omusubi” with its unique combination of ingredients, and the heartwarming “Furusato Local Soup”. Enjoy a special breakfast experience filled with new discoveries.
–What souvenirs do you recommend?
With the idea of “providing special souvenirs for guests visiting Kanazawa,” we have developed and marketed the hotel’s original “Cour de ISHIKAWA” series of sweets using local products of Ishikawa. The name means “heart of Ishikawa” in French, and we recommend the bonbon chocolates. In addition to year-round products using Ruby Romain, a premium grape variety born in Ishikawa, a limited edition product will be available for Valentine’s Day. We hope that many people will enjoy these new Kanazawa souvenirs. Please stop by the “Pastry Shop” on the 1st floor.
