On January 14, Shin Nihonkai Ferry announced that it will replace the vessels currently in service on the Otaru (Hokkaido) – Maizuru (Kyoto) route. The first vessel will be built at the Shimonoseki Shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and is scheduled to enter service in December.
The new vessel is 199 meters long with a gross tonnage of approximately 14,300 tons and a sailing speed of 28.3 knots. It has a passenger capacity of 286 and a loading capacity of approximately 150 trucks and 30 passenger cars. The main engine is four units of 8540 kW each.
