Garmin Japan will sequentially release its latest toughness GPS watch, the Instinct 3, on January 23. The company will also release the more accessible Instinct E.
The Instinct series is a tough GPS watch that meets the MIL-STD-810 standard set by the U.S. Department of Defense and is a full-fledged smartwatch.
The Instinct 3 comes in two models: the Instinct 3 Dual Power with a long battery life and the Instinct 3 AMOLED with an AMOLED display that is more vivid and highly visible. Both are available in two sizes, 45mm/50mm, and in limited quantities in standard and new “Tropical Color Collection” colors.
The Instinct 3 Dual Power features a third-generation solar battery that significantly improves charging efficiency and absorption rate: for the 50mm display model, the battery lasts approximately 60 hours in GPS mode, 200 hours on a solar charge, and unlimited in smartwatch mode.
The Instinct 3 AMOLED is said to be recommended for outdoor users who want to prioritize visibility in all situations, as well as for urban fashion, especially for town use. The 50mm battery operates for approximately 24 days in smartwatch mode and 40 hours in GPS mode.
GPS has evolved to GNSS multi-band compatibility for both models, which provides accurate location information even in heavily shielded areas such as urban building valleys. The unique SatIQ technology is also included, which immediately and automatically selects the optimal satellite system and frequency mode for the environment, improving positioning speed and accuracy and extending battery life.
All models have a built-in LED flashlight (Instinct E is not equipped). The light has functions such as light intensity adjustment, white/red switching, and SOS transmission, making it useful not only for outdoor and nighttime activities, but also for everyday life.
The activity function is also further enhanced, supporting not only standard sports such as running and cycling, but also more than 80 popular indoor and outdoor activities such as skiing and snowboarding.
Other safety features are also provided to deal with sudden accidents in the outdoors. It is also equipped with an accident and fall detection function that automatically detects accidents and transmits the current location to a registered emergency contact. The device is also equipped with a lifelog function with a full range of features, including the unique BodyBattery, which visualizes heart rate, stress level, and remaining body energy, as well as smart functions, music playback, and Suica-compatible electronic payment functions.
Also new is the Instinct E, an easy-to-handle model aimed at younger people who enjoy outdoor and urban sports. While maintaining the shock resistance, water resistance, and durability of military specifications, the new Instinct E offers sports and lifelogging functions at a more reasonable price.
