Tokai Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. will begin full-scale operation of its Starlink free satellite communication service on February 1, following trials on its large passenger ships, the Sarubia Maru and Tachibana Maru.
Both vessels operate on the route from Takeshiba Pier in Tokyo to the Izu Islands. Until now, data transmission speeds have declined when the vessels were away from land in the maritime environment, but by using the satellite broadband Starlink service, the communication environment has been improved. The company decided to introduce the service on a full-scale basis in response to strong demand from passengers.
Access points will be set up in the ship’s restaurant and at the information desk, and detailed instructions on how to use them will be announced at a later date.
