JICA President Akihiko Tanaka visited Uzbekistan from January 19 to 23, meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and other government officials and inspecting JICA’s cooperation projects.
During his meeting with President Mirziyoyev, President Tanaka conveyed his view that Uzbekistan’s independent development is important for a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and that JICA would continue to cooperate with Uzbekistan. President Mirziyoyev expressed his appreciation for JICA’s contribution as a partner in supporting Uzbekistan’s reforms, and they exchanged views on the direction of Uzbekistan’s development.

At the signing ceremony of the Yen Loan Agreement for the “Health and Medical Service Improvement Project,” President Tanaka expressed his hope to contribute to the improvement of medical services by utilizing Japanese technology through the establishment of a new brain nerve center in Tashkent.

The participants also witnessed the launch of the Japan Career Portal, a website that provides information on working in Japan, which was created as a result of the technical cooperation project “Industrial Human Resource Development Project Utilizing Work Opportunities in Japan,” and visited the Uzbek-Japan Human Resource Development Center to interact with entrepreneurs and other participants in the business course. They also visited the Japan Center for Human Resources Development in Uzbekistan, where they interacted with entrepreneurs and other participants in the business course, and confirmed that the network of business human resources between Japan and Uzbekistan has been strengthened.

The World University of Economics and Diplomacy awarded an honorary doctorate to Chancellor Tanaka. At the award ceremony, Chancellor Tanaka stressed the importance of realizing international cooperation, especially human security through cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan, in a world facing multiple crises.

In addition to the capital city of Tashkent, the group visited Samarkand, where they observed, among other things, the Samarkand University of Agricultural Innovation and the site of technical cooperation in dried persimmon production in collaboration with the Japan-Uzbekistan Society and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
