Osaka Metro strengthens safety by increasing station staff and assigning security guards on the Chuo Line during the Expo. One-man operation will also begin.

Osaka Metro announced that it will strengthen safety measures mainly on the Chuo Line, which will be the access line during the “Osaka-Kansai Expo”.

The number of station employees will be increased by approximately 40, and approximately 100 new security guards will be assigned at 11 stations. This will help ensure safety by facilitating one-way transfer routes at Honmachi and Benten-cho stations, and by dealing with congestion at the top and bottom of stairways and escalators.

One security guard is posted on trains from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., excluding early morning and late night hours. In addition, station employees and security guards stand guard on platforms at Chuo Line stations west of Morinomiya during the last departure hours when no security guards are posted.

In the event of technical problems, a maintenance system will be established with approximately 30 maintenance personnel and materials to enable an early resumption of operations, and a system capable of initial response. In addition, as a result of these system enhancements, the Chuo Line will begin one-man operation on February 11, as will the Sennichimae Line, Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line, and Imazatosuji Line.

The company’s current major safety measures include the introduction of “fixed-point stop devices” that automatically brake the train to stop at a predetermined position on the platform, installation of “movable platform fences” at all stations to prevent accidents involving falls or contact with trains, installation of “emergency alarm systems” at two locations on each car to alert passengers of problems on the train, and the installation of a “car-side surveillance television system” that displays images from cameras installed on the platform on a monitor display in the train crew room. In addition, the “Car Side Surveillance Television System,” which displays images from cameras installed on platforms on monitors in the crew cabins, has been adopted.
