Four companies, JR East, Toei Transportation, Tokyo Metro, and Central Security Patrol, will expand the service coverage of “Mamorail,” a service to watch over children, from April 1. As a result, adults over 18 years old will also be able to use this service. The monthly fee is 550 yen.
When a person eligible for the service passes through an automatic ticket gate at a participating station using Suica/PASMO, the service notifies the person’s registered family members and other e-mail addresses of the time of the pass, the station used, and the remaining charge amount. Currently, the service is available to elementary school students, junior high school students, high school students (until March 31st of their 18th year), seniors (65 years old or older), and people with disabilities. This expansion of the eligibility period is in response to requests from users that they wish to continue using the service after high school graduation.
Currently, the contract is made by the service recipient’s relative (equivalent to a guardian), but after the service eligibility is expanded, the service recipient himself/herself will make the contract. Notification will be sent to the service recipient and one other person designated in advance.
Applications will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. on March 3 on the MAMORAIL website. For the time being, the first month of use and the following month will be provided free of charge. In the case of high school students (until March 31st of their 18th year) who are currently under contract, the contract will not be automatically renewed. After the contract expires, the person who is eligible for the service will be required to enroll in a new subscription.
In addition, a “New Member Choice Point Campaign” will be held from March 3 to May 31. During this period, 300 people who enroll in MAMORAIL will be selected by lottery to receive 1,000 JRE POINT, ToKoPo, or Metopo points. Entry can be made through the membership registration completion e-mail that will be sent out the day before the service start date.
