Japan’s first shuttle bus using synthetic fuel at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. Ten buses a day run from Osaka Station to the venue.

Posted on 2025-02-202025-03-27 by Editor in Chief

Nishi Nihon JR Bus, ENEOS, and Hino Motors announced that they will operate Japan’s first Expo shuttle bus using synthetic fuel during the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The route will run from Osaka Station to the Osaka-Kansai Expo site, with 10 buses per day. The period of operation is from April 13 to October 13.

This bus uses synthetic fuel produced from hydrogen and carbon dioxide in an integrated process. Since hydrogen and carbon dioxide derived from renewable energy sources are used as raw materials, carbon dioxide emissions throughout the product life cycle, from raw material production to product use, can be reduced.

With support from the Green Innovation Fund of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), ENEOS will provide the Expo shuttle buses with synthetic fuel produced at a demonstration plant completed in September 2024 in the company’s Central Technology Research Institute.

Nishi Nippon JR Bus will operate shuttle buses directly from Osaka Station (Umekita Green Place bus parking lot) to the Osaka/Kansai Expo site, and Hino Motors will support the Expo shuttle bus operation by confirming the compatibility of synthetic fuels and vehicles and engines.
