Netflix will exclusively distribute the Netflix movie “Shinkansen Dai Baku” starting April 23.
This is a non-stop suspense entertainment film full of thrills and tension, combining realistic images with the latest VFX. Director Higuchi Shinji, a big fan of the original “Shinkansen Dai Bakaku” (Toei, released in 1975) and creator of “Shin Godzilla,” has made a major rearrangement (reboot) of the film to reconstruct it for the modern society.
The main character is played by Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, who also worked with Higuchi on “The Sinking of Japan. He plays Takaichi (the main character), the conductor of the Hayabusa 60 train, who struggles to avert a bombing.
On March 5, the first trailer was unveiled; thanks to the special cooperation of JR East, actual Shinkansen trains and the General Control Center were used for the filming.
In the trailer, the coupling parts of Hayabusa 60 collide with each other, causing the train’s body to shake violently, and sparks fly as the train is about to derail. The trailer also includes a scene in which director Higuchi’s style is on full display as Kasagi (Takumi Saito) and his team simulate a model bullet train at the control center in order to save the Hayabusa.
