JR Tokai and JR West will experimentally use the “oversized luggage corner” on some decks of the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen (16-car trains) as a luggage storage area without prior reservations. The trial period is from July 1 for the time being (the end of the trial period has not yet been decided).
Until now, when bringing in large luggage (oversized luggage) with a total length, width, and height of 160 to 250 cm, advance reservation of a “seat with oversized luggage space” or “seat with oversized luggage corner” was required.
During the trial period, “Seats with Oversized Luggage Corner” will not be sold, and passengers are advised to reserve “Seats with Oversized Luggage Space” when bringing in oversized luggage.
Luggage storage areas (currently oversized luggage corners) will be installed in six locations per train (on the decks of cars 3, 5, 7, 9, 13, and 15) for all 16-car trains.
The oversized luggage space is an oversized luggage storage area located behind the last seat in the passenger cabin. 57 seats are available for “Nozomi”, 42 seats for “Hikari”, and 17 seats for “Kodama” (when the reserved seats in the standard car are No. 7, 11 and 12).
