Expo has X-ray baggage screening at the entrance gate. Please note that suitcases that are not allowed to be brought into the Expo will be checked for 10,000 yen.

On April 13, the Osaka-Kansai Expo (EXPO 2025) will open in Yumeshima, Osaka. Here we report on scenes from the media day held prior to the opening of the Expo.

At the two entrance gates, located on the east and west sides of the building, visitors’ baggage will be visually inspected by X-ray machines and staff members. In addition, visitors will be checked for any dangerous items they are wearing using body scanners and metal detectors. It is easy to understand if you imagine a flow similar to that of airport security checks.

Certain items, such as drinks, smartphones, computers, cameras, and umbrellas, must be placed in the tray in the baggage inspection lane with the items removed from the bag.

In addition, large baggage exceeding the size of the line inspection device of 600 x 900 x 400 mm (width x depth x height) and luggage with casters (suitcases) regardless of size are not allowed inside the venue.

Before visiting the venue, please leave your baggage in coin lockers in Osaka City, at your hotel, or at the official baggage storage areas outside the venue (Benten-cho Station and Sakurajima Station) prepared by the Expo Association.

If you happen to bring large luggage or luggage with wheels to the venue, it will be kept at the gate for a fee (10,000 yen per piece), but only 100 pieces per day will be accepted at each of the East and West gates. If this happens, you will have to look around for nearby stations and facilities that have large coin lockers available.

There is a “temporary baggage storage” at the venue, but there are no large or medium-sized coin lockers; only small coin lockers are available outside the gates.

We checked if it was possible to go out after passing through the entrance gates once, and found that there is a “multi-purpose lane (re-entry lane)” at the end of each of the east and west gates. If you want to re-enter after leaving the venue, just ask an attendant there to guide you.

For example, if you need to retrieve your luggage from the small coin lockers located outside the gates (one near the East Gate and one near the West Gate) or go to the smoking areas located outside the gates (two near the East Gate), it would be a good idea to keep this in mind.
