JICA will dispatch the second contingent of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) medical team for the earthquake damage in central Myanmar as follows.

Disaster Situation
At around 3:20 p.m. Japan time (12:50 p.m. local time) on March 28, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake centered in Zagaing, located in central Myanmar (hereinafter referred to as the Republic of the Union of Myanmar), hit the country, resulting in numerous victims, including casualties and property damage. According to Myanmar government authorities, as of April 8, the death toll has reached 3,591, the number of injured 4,814, and the number of missing 148.
Dispatch of International Emergency Relief Teams and Medical Teams
In response to a request from Myanmar, JICA dispatched a 32-member International Emergency Medical Assistance Team on April 2, consisting of registered medical team members and JICA staff. The team has started medical support activities, but since there is still a high need for medical support in the affected areas, a second team will be dispatched on April 12 to take over the activities of the first team that is currently deployed. An outline of the second medical team is as follows
(1) The team consists of 37 members in total, including the leader, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical coordinators, logisticians, and operations coordinators.
(2) The second contingent is scheduled to be deployed for a period of two weeks, but the duration of emergency relief activities will be determined based on local needs.
