People Inc. will release “P♪siyoca,” an IC card exclusively for children, at toy stores and online stores nationwide in early July. The price is 2,200 yen.
Equipped with a non-contact sensor, the device emits a sound just by holding a card over it. The card is reversible, designed to resemble a traffic system IC card and a credit card, and sounds accordingly.
The sensor itself comes with a clip that can be attached to an adult’s pocket or bag, allowing children to “beep” when passing through an actual ticket gate.
In developing this product, we focused on observing children’s behavior and noted that 1-2 year olds are particularly interested in touching their cards at ticket gates and cash registers. In a survey of monitors, we found that children’s moods improved and they were able to move smoothly when they “beeped” the card.
