The Trip.com Group, a travel website, held its global conference “Envision 2025” in Shanghai, China, on May 26.
More than 3,000 travel industry leaders and partners from around the world gathered for the main forum of Envision 2025, where James Liang, co-founder and chairman of Trip.com Group, took the stage. In his keynote address, Mr. Liang used the word “innovation” several times, emphasizing that innovation is the key driver for the future of the travel industry.
He introduced various examples of innovation for unique experiences that are taking place in various fields such as technology, culture, art, and content in various countries, and said, “I hope that by working together with you, we can boldly innovate and move forward for a better future for mankind. He concluded his speech.
Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group, announced that international travel bookings in the first quarter of 2024 exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 120%.
Our strategy and approach has been consistent, always putting people first through innovation and technology,” said Mr. Soong. We will continue to promote innovation with a focus on people and strive to make travel better for everyone.
This year’s “Envision 2025” featured a big special guest. CEO Soong introduced Prince Henry, Duke of Sussex, England, founder of Travalyst, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable travel.
Founded in 2019, Travalyst is backed by some of the world’s largest OTAs, including Trip.com, and major companies like Google, Mastercard, and Visa.
Prince Henry said, “The Asia-Pacific region has a uniquely diverse and wonderful culture. It is important that we work to support the sustainability of travel and tourism, as well as protect local communities, while keeping an eye on how climate change will affect tourism,” he said in his speech.
Finally, the Trip.com Group announced the establishment of a US$100 million (approximately ¥14.4 billion) Tourism Innovation Fund. The fund aims to support promising projects and individuals in the travel industry and will be used to support destinations, organizations, and individuals with transformative ideas.
On this occasion, we were able to speak with Tomoyuki Takada, President of Trip.com International Travel Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of Trip.com.
According to Mr. Takada, Trip.com is currently expanding its domestic recognition by running advertisements on the boarding bridges at Fukuoka and Kansai airports. The company is also running a mega sale exclusively for the Japanese market and special price promotions for popular destinations such as Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Nowadays, more and more people are traveling to their favorite artist’s live concerts and other guesswork events, and they are increasingly purchasing concert tickets on Trip.com first, which leads them to download the app and make airline and hotel reservations.
When asked, “What differentiates or distinguishes you from other OTAs?” he answered, “The quality of our travel products. He said that they are increasingly offering a full range of travel-related items, including hotels, airline tickets, attraction tickets, airport transfers, and eSIMs.
Trip.com’s strength is that we have a single platform that makes it easy to understand, instead of using one app to make reservations for the fatty and another app to make reservations for the fatty, etc. Our 24-hour customer support and loyalty program are also major advantages. Trip.com is also a big advantage.
Mr. Takada concluded, “Online travel agencies have specialized in the function of making reservations, but in the future we would like to take this function even further and become more like a “travel companion.
Trip.com conducted a press tour in conjunction with its coverage of the conference, and on the third day we were able to enjoy a tour of Chengdu, the sacred land of giant pandas, and Jiuzhaigou, a World Heritage site. We will report on the tour in the next issue.
