On June 13, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, in cooperation with Iyo Tetsudo Bus, Iyo Railway, and Iyo Tetsudo Taxi, began trial operations of a Japanese version of ridesharing by bus and rail operators.
This service will utilize the Japanese version of ride-sharing (private car utilization business) established in March 2024, and will provide transportation services by private cars and regular drivers under the management of cab companies.
In this trial, cab operators (Iyotetsu Taxi) will sign new employment contracts with employees of bus and rail operators (Iyotetsu Bus and Iyo Railway) to share vehicles and drivers to increase transportation capacity.
The service area covers Matsuyama City, Toon City, Tobe Town, and Matsumae Town in Ehime Prefecture, and runs from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Fridays.
