In response to the announcement by the Civil Aviation Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Scheduled Airlines Association regarding the handling of mobile batteries on board aircraft, JAL has issued a guide regarding mobile battery carry-on rules from July 8.
The Civil Aeronautics Bureau and the Japan Civil Aviation Association have issued a new regulation in response to the recent incidents of smoking and ignition of mobile batteries brought onboard in Japan and overseas. In accordance with the new regulations, JAL will also advise passengers from July 8 to keep mobile batteries in a place where their condition can be checked at all times, even when recharging them, and not in a storage cabinet when bringing them on board.
According to the JCAB, there have been several incidents of smoke, heat generation, and expansion in Japan in the past year. However, in order to further improve safety, the new rule will be applied in addition to the existing conditions limiting the number and capacity of mobile batteries that can be carried on board.
