The Metropolitan Expressway will hold bridge light-downs to reduce CO2 emissions. The dates are June 21 for the “Summer Solstice Light-Down” and July 7 for the “Cool Earth Day Light-Down. Lights will be turned off on five bridges (Rainbow Bridge, Yokohama Bay Bridge, Tsurumi Tsubasa Bridge, Goshiki Sakura Bridge, and Katsushika Harp Bridge) along the Metropolitan Expressway.
The Rainbow Bridge/Yokohama Bay Bridge/Tsurumi Bridge will be lit up and illuminated from sunset to 24:00 on the day of the event, and the Goshiki Sakura Bridge/Katsushika Harp Bridge will be lit up and illuminated from sunset to 22:00.
The Metropolitan Expressway Group announced in May its “Metropolitan Expressway Carbon Neutral Strategy” with the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, and has set a target of reducing CO2 emissions from its business activities by approximately 50% (compared to FY 2019) in FY 2030. Through this two-day light-down, the group hopes to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 2 tons and provide an opportunity for many users to think about global warming prevention and environmental preservation.
