Asunarosha is selling “Hello Kitty red seal impression books” made of Echizen Washi paper, which has been produced in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture for about 1,500 years. There are nine patterns in all, priced at 2,420 yen.
The manufacturer, Wakakoshi Printing, expressed Hello Kitty in a watermarked pattern using the “two-layer watermarking technique,” a papermaking technique that has been handed down through the long history of the company. When the hair is held up to the light, Hello Kitty’s face and ribbon appear to float.
The red seal book is finished with a binding process handcrafted by bookbinders. The cover features a brightly colored, yuzen-patterned Hello Kitty design. It also comes with a rubber clasp made of “Iida mizuhiki,” a traditional craft of Iida City, Shinshu, Japan. The design is inspired by Hello Kitty’s ribbon.
