Background and Objectives
Bangladesh gained independence in 1971, and Japan became one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Bangladesh on February 10, 1972, the following year.

After congratulatory messages from Ms. Fatima Yasmin, Deputy Director General, ERD, and Mr. Akiyama, Director, Country Development Cooperation Division II, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a video commemorating JICA’s 50 years of cooperation with Bangladesh was shown. Keynote speech by Ms. Yamada, Vice President of JICA, “JICA and Bangladesh: 50 Years of Cooperation and Future Prospects,” followed by “Expectations for JICA” from various perspectives, including incorporated associations, private companies, and universities, and responses by Mr. Ito, Director of JICA’s South Asia Division.
