Jalan Research Center, a Recruit Co., Ltd. company, announced the results of the 13th “Domestic Accommodation Travel Needs Survey” conducted among Macromill member monitors (20-79 years old/1652 persons) nationwide. The survey was conducted from May 27 to 29.
According to the survey data, the total number of respondents who said they “have plans and will go with caution” or “have plans and will go without concern” for their upcoming domestic overnight trips increased 6.2 points from the previous survey (March 28-29) to 29.6%. This is the highest value since the survey began in March 2020, according to the survey.
In addition, 37.8% of all respondents answered that they “plan to travel” or “have no plans yet but would like to travel” this summer (June through August, excluding the Obon vacation). Of these, “hot springs and open-air baths” and “eating local delicacies” were the top travel purposes for all generations. In addition, theme parks (amusement parks/zoos/museums, etc.) also ranked high among those in their 30s and 40s, the generation that is raising children.
Daigo Igarashi, a research staff member at Jalan Research Center, commented on the results, “Considering that 54% of respondents took at least one trip in 2019 in the “Jalan Accommodation Travel Survey 2020,” a travel dynamics survey conducted before the Corona disaster, the current value of travel motivation is considered to be at a considerably high level. The mood for travel is steadily easing, as the acceptance of international tourists resumed on June 10. As long as there are no major changes in domestic overnight travel, the trend of resuming travel that was restrained by the Corona disaster will continue,” he commented.
This survey is conducted to regularly hear and disclose travelers’ travel motivations and action plans with the aim of contributing to the revitalization of the domestic overnight travel market as a whole, and has been conducted continuously since March 2020, formerly known as the “Impact of the New Coronavirus Infection on the Travel Market” survey.
They also plan to present more details about the Obon season in the next presentation of the survey results, which will be conducted in July.
