The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of Moldova on June 24, 2012 in Chi?in?u, the capital of the Republic of Moldova, for a grant of up to 1,549 million yen for the “Fire Fighting Equipment Improvement Project.
In Moldova, firefighting vehicles are used not only for firefighting activities, but also for emergency rescue during natural disasters such as floods and traffic accidents. However, the shortage of vehicles deployed by fire departments in various parts of the country and the aging of existing vehicles hinder proper firefighting and rescue operations, and contribute to the spread of damage during disasters.
In light of this situation, this project aims to contribute to the safety of the people and public services in the provinces of Chi?in?u, Balti, Kafur, Ungeni, and Orhei by procuring firefighting equipment to improve the capacity for emergency firefighting and rescue operations. This project is expected to build Moldova’s resilience against disasters and contribute to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goal 11 (Create cities where people can continue to live) and Goal 13 (Take concrete measures against climate change).
