In Paraguay, recent economic growth has led to a rapid increase in demand for electricity. According to the Paraguayan National Electricity Corporation (ANDE), which operates and maintains the electricity distribution and transmission business, the average growth rate of electricity demand is projected to be 7.7%, and by 2030, demand for electricity is expected to exceed the capacity of existing generation facilities. On the other hand, ANDE’s electricity business has efficiency problems, especially transmission losses to the Asuncion Metropolitan Area, which accounts for 58 percent of electricity demand, causing frequent power outages, and a stable electricity supply is the biggest challenge. This cooperation aims to ensure a stable and efficient supply of electricity to the Paraguayan capital region by constructing a 500kV transmission line (Iguazu to Valenzuela) that will supply electricity to the region, and to promote energy conservation by installing power efficient equipment in public facilities in Asuncion, thereby improving the efficiency of the entire power system. The project will contribute to the sustainable economic development of the country by improving the efficiency of the entire power system.
