Hotels.com conducted a survey of 1,000 men and women ages 18-45 on their attitudes toward travel from July to September 2022.
With the first summer in three years with no restrictions on activity, about 60% of respondents said they are planning a domestic trip. Twenty percent had already booked a trip for this summer, and nearly 40% were planning to travel but had not yet done so. In addition, 55% of respondents plan to travel in September, which includes Silver Week, indicating that many people are planning to travel in September when the heat is slightly cooler.
When asked about the impact of not having traveled for a long time on their choice of travel destinations and what kind of destinations they would like to choose in the future, the most common response was “I want to go to familiar places I have not been to for a while (29%). The next most common responses were “I want to go to a place where I can feel close to nature (24%)” and “I want to visit various places in the nearby area (23%). This indicates that there is a need for micro-tourism that involves staying and sightseeing in nearby areas within an hour or two from home.
