At the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden (4512-150 Kita-Rokko, Rokkosan-cho, Nada-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture), operated by Rokkosan Kanko, the endangered higotai has reached its peak of blooming.
Higotai is a perennial herb of the Asteraceae family, characterized by its bright blue, ball-shaped flowers. It is classified as an endangered species (VU) due to the decline of grasslands where it grows, and it is rare for it to bloom in Honshu.
Located 865 meters above sea level, the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden takes advantage of the cool climate to cultivate about 1,500 species of alpine and wild plants from around the world. In an area designed to resemble a highland flower garden in summer, higotai and yellow ominaeci bloom side by side, swaying in the refreshing breeze and adding cool color to the garden. The higotai can be enjoyed until around the end of August.
