The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Yen Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan for up to US$200 million for the “Horticulture Crop Value Chain Enhancement Project (Phase 2)” in Tashkent on August 29.
The project will provide two-step loans through financial institutions in Uzbekistan to farmers and agribusinesses engaged in the production and processing of horticultural crops. At the same time, the project aims to improve access to finance and strengthen the horticultural crop value chain through capacity building of these financial institutions and support for end-user farmers. Through this support, the project will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector by raising incomes, creating jobs, and strengthening exports, thereby contributing to Goal 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
