JAPAN has launched the “Flight Tab” function, which allows users to search for routes using airplanes, on its Yahoo! MAP map application for smartphones.
MAP’s route search has previously provided information on routes using public transportation such as trains and buses, cars, walking, and bicycles, but now it is also possible to check routes using airplanes. MAP, but now you can also check routes using airplanes by specifying your starting point and destination and selecting the Flight tab with the airplane icon.
On the search results screen, the flight number and normal fare are displayed along with the airline’s icon, and if you book up to the day before, you can make a reservation on the spot at the “Yahoo!
Takumi Yamamoto, Yahoo! MAP Service Manager, commented on the addition of this new feature, “We have continued to improve Yahoo! MAP with the idea of eliminating all the anxiety and hassle of travel with a single application. We have recently seen a gradual return to outings, and we expect that opportunities to use airplanes for domestic travel and business trips will increase in the future, so we decided to support flights this time,” he said.
According to Mr. Masaki Yamaura, who was in charge of implementing this function, “We focused on creating variations in routes. For example, we tuned the system so that there would not be many routes to Haneda and all the planes would be the same,” he said.
While train routes display delay information, airline routes do not currently reflect real-time flight information such as delays and cancellations, nor do they provide a function that allows users to search for a route around a reserved flight. The two companies intend to resolve these issues little by little while listening to users’ opinions.
