JR West Japan will offer a service (Cycle Train) that allows passengers to bring bicycles on the limited express train “Kuroshio” without dismantling them, starting on October 1. The service will be available on all trains operating between Shirahama and Shingu stations, and will be available only between the two stations and either Kushimoto or Kii-Katsuura. The service is basically available every day, but it may be excluded during the busiest season.
On the Kisei Main Line (Kinokuni Line), a similar service is already available on regular trains, and from October, “Kuroshio” trains will be able to bring in only No. 6 carriages. On such trains, only seats in Car 6 (reserved seats) will be sold as “Kuroshio Cycle,” and four seats can be used side by side for the fare and express fare of one person.
When boarding, passengers receive a special cover, rubber band, and rag at the ticket gate, and wipe off any dirt with the rag on the platform before attaching the cover. After boarding, the bicycles are placed on the designated seats A and B and secured with rubber, and passengers sit on the seats across the aisle. When getting off the train, remove the cover at the platform and return the three items at the ticket gate.
