JR Kyushu will hold “150 Station Managers for a Day” on October 15 as part of JR’s 150th Year of Railroads commemorative project. One stationmaster will be assigned to each of the 150 stations within JR Kyushu’s jurisdiction for a day, and will receive a nameplate and an original cap for the day. In addition to terminal stations such as Hakata and Kokura, a variety of stations throughout Kyushu have been selected for the event, including the normally unmanned Shigeoka Station and Ureshino Onsen Station, which is scheduled to open on September 23.
Participation is free of charge (however, participants are responsible for their own transportation to the station where the event is held). The program is limited to elementary school students and younger, and up to two accompanying parents may participate free of charge. Applications will be accepted from August 31 to September 20, and winners will be notified by e-mail in late September.
