Since the 1990s, India has been promoting the introduction of joint forest management, in which communities that depend on forests for their livelihoods jointly manage public forests with forest departments, as a pillar of forest conservation planning, in order to change the previous exclusive management of forest resources. Along with the promotion of joint forest management, the role of the field forest officers in each state has come to require them to cooperate with local residents, encourage their proactive participation in forest conservation, and transfer the technology necessary for forest conservation. However, this has not been fully reflected in the training systems and teaching methods for field forest officers, and the training facilities that have been established throughout India have not been equipped to conduct full-scale training.
This cooperation improved the forest management training content of state forest officer training institutions in India and renovated and constructed aging training facilities, thereby enhancing the training system to improve the capacity of field forest officers and contributing to the development of human resources useful for sustainable forest management.
