JICA Vice President Junichi Yamada met with President Slangel S. Whipps, Jr. of the Republic of Palau in Tokyo on September 8.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Whipps introduced the Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Friendly Relations that Palau signed with Okinawa Prefecture in August. He then expressed his appreciation for Japan’s high quality ODA cooperation in Palau’s socioeconomic development, infrastructure development, and healthcare sectors, and expressed his desire to continue to deepen ties between the two countries and host many more visitors from Japan.
In response, Vice President Yamada mentioned JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers’ activities in Palau and cooperation through infrastructure development, and conveyed that Palau is an important partner for Japan in the Indo-Pacific region, and that JICA will continue to strengthen its support for Palau’s stability and development. He also said that JICA will continue to strengthen its support for Palau’s stability and development.
