Casio will release the OCW-S5000MB, a limited edition model incorporating maki-e, a traditional Japanese craft, from the OCEANUS Manta series on October 14. It will be priced at around 275,000 yen.
Maki-e is a traditional Japanese craft in which a picture is painted on the surface of a vessel using a thin brush and then gold or silver powder is sprinkled on top before it dries to create a pattern.
This model is a thin metal watch with maki-e on the sapphire glass bezel under the production and supervision of Mr. Yutaro Shimode, a Kyoto maki-e artist.
The platinum powder is spun in a vertical line from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock on the bezel to express the spray of water from a waterfall as it flows down and up in a powerful motion. The fusion of the beauty of blue, the brand color of OCEANUS, and the maki-e technique creates a gorgeous, high-quality model that evokes the dynamism of water.
In terms of functionality, in addition to the radio wave reception function, the watch is equipped with a time correction function via smartphone link using Bluetooth communication, displaying accurate time regardless of location. In addition, the CASIO WATCHES application allows users to easily and intuitively set the time in approximately 300 cities.
