At a press conference on September 30, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike announced that the national government will start the “National Travel Support” program on October 11, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will start it on October 20.
Governor Koike said, “This is the time to start taking into account the opinions of experts. We are making various preparations and will try to increase the effectiveness of the promotion of tourism support with regard to mechanisms and innovations,” he explained.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s own tourism support program, “More Tokyo,” will be fully implemented in conjunction with the October 20 launch of the National Travel Support Program,” he said.
He noted that this is a good time of year to travel, and he hopes that people will take advantage of it, but he also urged caution, saying, “I hope everyone will follow infection prevention measures.
The start date for Tokyo as a metropolitan government will be October 20, and travel to destinations in Tokyo will not be eligible until then, but the national travel support itself is open to all citizens, and Tokyo residents can take advantage of the national travel support for travel to other prefectures.
