JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Natalia Gavrilica of the Republic of Moldova in Tokyo on September 28.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka, referring to his visit to Moldova in May 2022, said that he was impressed by the country’s efforts to accept refugees from Ukraine, which had been invaded by Russia, and that the international community, including Japan, needs to support Moldova.
In response, Prime Minister Gabrielitsa expressed his gratitude for JICA’s longstanding cooperation with Moldova. He also expressed his hope that JICA would continue to be an important partner in addressing the challenges that the country is currently facing, such as inflation and soaring energy prices.
The two sides then exchanged views on various reforms for Moldova’s accession to the EU, as well as policies to promote business investment and exports.
