The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of India on October 12 in Delhi for the technical cooperation project “Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Station Area Development Support Project.
This project will support the planning of the station area for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project, which will connect Mumbai, the largest city in Maharashtra, and Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and will be supported through a yen loan. This will contribute to SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) Goal 11 (Create a city where people can continue to live) by improving passenger convenience and broad economic development.
The “Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project” aims to improve passenger transportation convenience, reduce traffic pollution, strengthen regional connectivity, and contribute to the economic development of the target area by establishing a high frequency mass passenger transportation system. In order to make high-speed rail more convenient for passengers, it is necessary to develop communities centered around high-speed rail stations, such as by improving access to stations and transferring to public transportation, and by providing access from stations to commercial facilities. To this end, we will support the formulation of development plans around the four stations designated as model stations and improve the ability to formulate station area development plans through the formulation of a handbook on development around high-speed rail stations, etc.
