Emergency Relief for Hurricane Ian in the Republic of Cuba -Delivery of Donated Goods
Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for damage caused by Hurricane Ian in the Republic of Cuba have been delivered to the country.
The emergency relief supplies for Cuba arrived in Havana on October 16, and at 9:00 a.m. on October 19 (local time) in Pinar del Rio, the province most affected by the hurricane, a handover ceremony was held in the presence of Vilma Sanchez, Director General of the Economic Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment and Niulka Rodriguez, Deputy Governor of the province, from the Cuban side. From the Japanese side, Ambassador Kenji Hirata of Cuba and Tatsuya Ashida, Director of the JICA Cuba Office, attended the ceremony to deliver the supplies.
At the handover ceremony, Deputy Governor Niurka Rodriguez expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s support. In response, Ambassador Hirata expressed his hope that the damage caused by the hurricane would be resolved as soon as possible, and that this support was an expression of the friendly relationship between the two countries.
