Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is offering “Unshu mandarin orange picking” at 12 farms in three areas of the city.
Blessed with a mild climate, Ito City specializes in citrus fruits such as mandarin oranges. The variety of citrus fruits harvested varies with the time of year, with “Onshu mandarins” usually in season from October to January. Ito’s tangerine fields, which are said to be the model for the nursery rhyme “Mikan no Hanasaku Oka” (The Hill Where the Mikan Flowers Bloom), are spread out along the rugged coastline, and visitors can enjoy the view of the sea while eating freshly harvested tangerines.
The all-you-can-eat course is 500 yen per person, and the all-you-can-eat + souvenir course is 1,000 yen per person. Each mandarin orchard also offers local delivery service, so even if you live far away, you can easily enjoy Ito’s mandarin oranges.
The target mandarin orchards are as follows. Details of each orchard are listed in the “Izu-Ito Sightseeing Guide” on the official Ito City Web site.
