JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Alvaro Lario at JICA headquarters on November 17.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka congratulated President Lalio on his inauguration as President and the opening of IFAD’s Japan Liaison Office. He also expressed his concern about the impact of the recent climate change, food crisis, and rising fertilizer prices on small farmers in developing countries, and his desire to further expand cooperation with IFAD to strengthen food security in Africa.
In response, President Lalio said that he and JICA have been cooperating on several projects and have built a good partnership, and would like to continue to promote collaboration in a wide range of areas, including agriculture, nutrition, and food security.
They exchanged views on the renewal of the cooperation agreement between JICA and IFAD, strengthening cooperation through the Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD), an international initiative also promoted by JICA, and the possibility of cooperation in the area of Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF). The participants exchanged opinions on the possibility of cooperation in Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF).
