Lunch was BBQ at Keyakidai Campground I searched the Internet for places to have lunch near Hananuki Valley, but there are not many restaurants in the Hananuki Valley area. …… Since it was a weekday when I went there, there was a possibility that they were not open for lunch. I had recently purchased a Logos “Grill Attache mini” BBQ grill for one person, so I thought, “Why not have a BBQ lunch at the campground? So I called the campground to make a reservation. I went to bed feeling like a child before a field trip, having prepared the BBQ at home the day before, and prepared all the necessary tools. The Keyakidai Campground is a little hard to find, but the manager gave us detailed instructions when we called to make a reservation, so we were able to get there without getting lost. What surprised me when I arrived was that I could see the ocean from the campground! The campground is located near the top of a mountain, so the view is great and the mood is great. There is also a barbecue oven attached to the campground, so if you have a large group, it would be better to use that. Since I was alone this time, I set up my grill-atache mini and started BBQing solo. This time, I brought sausage and chicken thighs marinated in homemade basil pesto. I had cut up the vegetables in advance so that all I had to do was grill them, so the BBQ started smoothly. The meat was superb with the non-alcoholic beer we had prepared and the view of the ocean from the mountains. I sipped the non-alcoholic beer while thinking, “This is, to put it mildly, the best. There are no stores, and stores and convenience stores are a bit far from Keyakidai Campground, so it is best to prepare drinks and food well in advance. While we were enjoying the BBQ, the caretaker told us that there was a big zelkova tree on the road to the top of Mt. The big zelkova tree, named “Keyakitaro,” has an aura of distinction among the other zelkova trees in the area. It is said to be no less than 450 years old. While I was being overwhelmed by the grandeur of the tree, I noticed a small pond nearby. Named “Mr. Donut Swamp,” it is indeed doughnut-shaped and looks like something out of a Ghibli movie. It is said that in the past, wild boars used to play in the mud here. Further toward the top of the mountain, a large stone with a crack in it looks like a whale’s face. Named “Whale Stone,” it seems that a whale suddenly appeared in the middle of the mountain. However, how could such a large stone be found in such a mountain? …… The majesty of nature, like Keyakitaro and the Whale Stone, is breathtaking. When we arrived at the summit of Mt. Tsuchidake, it was cloudy and we could not see Mt. The view from the top of the mountain was excellent, and it was a luxury to be able to enjoy such a good view without the hardships of mountain climbing. It was a good exercise to refresh my stomach after dinner.
The nighttime lighting up is also spectacular! Hananuki Valley Autumn Foliage Festival After leaving Keyakidai Campground, we went to the main Hananuki Valley Autumn Foliage Festival. There were many food stands near the parking lot, creating a festive atmosphere. First, we went to Otome Falls and Fudo Falls to enjoy the scenic beauty of the autumn leaves and waterfalls. Then, we walked from the parking lot to the Shiomitaki Suspension Bridge, a 20-minute walk. The autumn leaves seen from the suspension bridge are truly breathtaking. It was a moment that made me feel glad to have been born in Japan. And what’s more, the bridge is illuminated after sunset. The bridge is illuminated until 7:00 p.m., so even those on their way home from work can enjoy the autumn foliage at night. I waited for the sunset while enjoying the autumn leaves until the lighting up started. When the lights came on, it was like a different world. It is like forgetting the time axis in this fantastic and ethereal world. Many people have been coming since the evening to see the illumination. The lighting up lasts until November 27 this year, but the view was so spectacular that I definitely want to come back next year. The view was so spectacular that I would definitely come back next year. After admiring the spectacular view and waiting for the sunset, my completely chilled body was soaking up the chicken dumpling soup from the stall. My body was still cold, so I decided to soak in a hot spring on my way home.
