Globe-Trotter has released “Brain gets stronger and stronger! Amazing Way to Walk the Earth” is now on sale. It is priced at 1,650 yen.

The stress and lack of exercise from stayhomes in the Corona Disaster is expected to lead to a sharp increase in the number of dementia patients, which is expected to take 20 to 30 years to develop among the working-age population. In the book, the author, Akihiko Takashima, an expert in brain science, explains why traveling is good for the brain. In particular, he focuses on the “olfactory entorhinal cortex,” a region that controls spatial navigation functions, and introduces 50 training exercises to prevent dementia.

Chapter 1 describes the structure and function of the brain and the olfactory entorhinal cortex. The relationship to dementia and the effects of travel on the brain are introduced with illustrations.

Chapter 2 presents 50 specific training exercises to activate the brain. The book includes training that can be incorporated into daily routines while traveling, in the neighborhood, or at home. You can choose from a variety of scene-specific training exercises, including international and domestic travel, physical exercises, and sit-down exercises, to try your hand at any of them.

Chapter 3 includes training in reading and deciphering walking routes in cities around the world written in text and writing the routes on a map. This training stimulates areas vulnerable to damage by Alzheimer’s disease, including the olfactory entorhinal cortex and hippocampus, and helps to strengthen spatial navigation functions. While enjoying the feeling of taking a stroll in a travel destination, the brain can be strengthened together.
