December has come and gone, and there are only a few days left in this year. As the weather gets colder by the day, we miss tropical resorts ……, so we picked up two souvenirs from Okinawa Prefecture for this issue. With the announcement of the extension of the National Travel Support Program through the end of the year and its implementation after the new year, the fun of traveling at a bargain price continues. My heart is truly excited, Chimu-Dodong!
Gokashi-Goten “Beniimo Tart
Beni imo tart is a classic souvenir of Okinawa. Many people have probably bought one or received one and eaten it at least once.
Gogatagoten is a confectionery manufacturer established in 1979 in Yomitan Village in the central part of the main island of Okinawa under the name “Ganso Beni Imo Kagashi Honpo” (Original Beni Imo Confectionery Store). The company sells a variety of sweets made at its own factory, including sata andagi (Okinawan sweet) and chinsuko (sweetened red bean paste), all made with Okinawan ingredients.
The signature product, Beniimo Tart, is made from 100% Okinawa-grown Beniimo paste. The tart is made without using any preservatives or coloring agents in order to bring out the original flavor of the ingredients. Indeed, the paste, which is not too sweet, has a distinct flavor of red potatoes and an impressive sweetness. The moist baked tart dough is a perfect combination.
