Four companies conduct a demonstration experiment using smartphones to register for “Face Express,” which allows passengers to board international flights with a face pass. Significantly shortened airport procedures

On May 10, ANA, JAL, NAA (Narita International Airport), and NEC announced the results of a demonstration experiment in which passengers registered to use Face Express, a boarding process that uses facial recognition, via their smartphones.

The experiment was conducted at Narita Airport from March 25 to 28 with the participation of approximately 150 people from the four companies and related parties. The experiment was conducted from March 25 to 28 at Narita Airport with the participation of approximately 150 people from the four companies and other related parties. The results of the experiment confirmed that “Face Express” usage rates have increased and that the boarding process is more comfortable and smoother.

The results of the experiment also showed that “Face Express” can significantly reduce the time required to complete procedures at the airport to about two-thirds of the time required in the past. On the other hand, the study also showed that there are issues to be addressed, such as improving the detailed user interface of the mobile application from the passenger’s perspective and examining the method of guiding passengers to the application.

Face Express, which utilizes NEC’s face recognition technology, will be introduced at Narita Airport in July 2021. Passport, boarding pass, and photo information are registered at check-in and other initial airport procedures, and passengers can then proceed to boarding procedures (baggage check-in, security checkpoint entry, and boarding gate passage) without having to present their boarding passes or passports, which were previously required.

By linking with ANA and JAL mobile apps, one-stop service is available from online check-in to registration of personal information on Face Express.
